S. Calif. students hurt in school cooking blast

TORRANCE, Calif. — Officials say portable cooking equipment has exploded in a Southern California classroom, sending 10 people to the hospital.

Torrance school district spokeswoman Tammy Kahn told KCAL-TV four students suffered second-degree burns on their hands, faces and necks in the Friday afternoon blast at North High School.

Torrance fire Capt. Steve Duel says the cooking equipment was being used for a fundraiser.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.

The school remains open.
