Thompson named WAC basketball player of the week

Hawaii senior point guard Hiram Thompson was named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week for his efforts in UH wins against Montana State and Cal State Fullerton.

It was the first such award for Thompson in his UH career.

Thompson posted a career-high 21 points with four assists and six rebounds in a 77-59 win over MSU on Friday. He followed against CSF by pouring in 17 of his 18 points in the second half of UH’s 84-70 victory. He had nine during the decisive, game-ending 14-0 run by UH, and also had seven assists against just one turnover in that contest.

Through two games, he’s averaging 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game, with a shooting percentage of 66.7.
