City Council confirms three Carlisle Cabinet members

The City Council today confirmed three more members of Mayor Peter Carlisle’s Cabinet — all of whom are holdovers from his predecessor’s administration.

Emergency Services Director Dr. James Ireland, Planning and Permitting Director Collins Lam and Customer Services Director Gail Haraguchi were confirmed by an unanimous 8-0 vote of the City Council at its meeting today.

Carlisle’s appointee for budget director, Michael Hansen, was among seven Cabinet appointees whose nominations were sent to committee for confirmation hearings. Hansen has served as acting director since September, when the top two department heads retired ahead of Carlisle taking office.

Other Cabinet nominees from the Mufi Hannemann administration being asked to stay on until 2012 are Transportation Director Wayne Yoshioka, Enterprise Services Director Sidney Quintal and Corporation Counsel Carrie Okinaga. Their nominations were sent to committee to be vetted next month.

The other Cabinet nominations being sent to committee today were all new appointees. They include Hansen, acting Community Services Director Sam Moku, acting Parks and Recreation Director Gary Cabato and acting Royal Hawaiian Band Director Clark Bright.
