Members of the Honolulu City Council are urging radio show host Rush Limbaugh to apologize for mocking China’s president.

The council’s Executive Matters and Legal Affairs Committee unanimously passed a resolution Monday condemning Limbaugh’s "offensive and derogatory remarks" regarding Chinese President Hu Jintao during last month’s visit to the White House.

Limbaugh did a 20-second nonsensical impression of the Chinese leader’s dialect on the talk show host’s Jan. 19 program.

The Honolulu Council resolution said Limbaugh’s remarks were disrespectful to 170,000 people of Chinese ancestry in Hawaii and 2.4 million nationwide.

The resolution, which doesn’t carry the force of law, also asks Clear Channel Communications to implement policies against racial discrimination on their radio programs.

The measure advances to the full City Council.
