Expect rain and vog through the holiday weekend

Forecasters say this weekend could be wet, humid and voggy, and cooling tradewinds might not return until next week Friday.

A front has stalled west of Kauai and is bringing the threat of heavy showers that could spread to Oahu.

The Garden Island is under a flash flood watch through noon Friday.

Forecasters say a series of low pressure systems northwest of Hawaii is blocking the tradewinds.

Rain and southerly winds are the forecast through next week.

Those south winds bring up vog from the Big Island and humid weather from the tropics.

Forecasters say there’s a chance the low pressure system could intensify and bring thunderstorms to Oahu on Sunday and on the Monday President’s Day holiday.

The front near Kauai may move down the island chain on Tuesday and pass over Oahu Wednesday, bringing an increased chance of showers.

Variable winds are predicted Thursday and the tradewinds may resume on Friday after the front passes and the low pressure system weakens, forecasters say.
