No. 13 Cal State Fullerton completes sweep

Nick Ramirez drove in all three Fullerton runs and the 13th-ranked Titans held on for a 3-2 victory over Hawaii this afternoon to sweep a four-game series at Les Murakami Stadium.

 

Cal State Fullerton improved to 16-8 for the season with their eighth win in nine games.

Zach Gallagher worked 6 2/3 strong innings for the Rainbows. He left with two on and two out in the seventh and Ramirez hit a two-run single off of Lenny Linsky for the decisive blow.

Gallagher was credited with both runs, giving up three on six hits with no walks and a strikeout to fall to 3-1 for the season.

Hawaii rallied for two runs in the eighth, putting the tying runner in scoring position.

Pi‘ikea Kitamura’s RBI groundout scored Collin Bennett, who walked with one out. Kolten Wong followed with an RBI single to score Breland Almadova, who doubled for the second time in as many games.

Wong stole second on a 2-2 pitch, but Jeff Van Doornum grounded out to third on a full count to end the inning.

David Hurlbut (1-0) pitched five shutout innings, allowing three hits and striking out six to earn the win.
