DHT CELEBRATES "KING" OPENING | 1. Tony Young (The Kralahome), left, Tricia Marciel (Anna) and Paolo Montalban (the King), stars of Diamond Head Theatre's current production of "The King and I," were greeted by Christine Yasunaga (Topsy) when they arrived at Maile's Thai Bistro just past midnight March 26 for the post-show cast party. Montalban, a Broadway veteran who has attended cast parties in New York and other cities, said he was particularly impressed with the way Bistro owner Maile Sayarath's staff kept replenishing the buffet until every member of the cast and crew had eaten — and then brought out more so they could take some home.

4. From left, DHT executive producers Kathryn and Dr. Maurice Nicholson caught up with board member Dr. John Magauran and artistic director John Rampage during the pre-show sponsors' reception. Rampage was fighting jet lag; he had returned from New York and a tour with DHT's Shooting Stars troupe the night before but said he was enjoying the pre-show festivities much more than he does when he is the director or choreographer of a show.

5. "King" director-choreographer Greg Zane talked with DHT board member Mariko Lyons, left, and Waikiki singer-dancer Autumn Ogawa at the pre-show reception. If Zane was nervous about opening night, he didn't show it. The opening-night production earned the standing ovation it received. FYI, ticket demand is so great that an additional performance was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. April 13. Call 733-0274.

3. "King" sound designer Mikel J. Humerickhouse, right, talked with Jeff Lee, banquet maitre d' of the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel, while Lee supervised dessert service in the sponsors' tent during intermission. By that time there was no question that DHT's "The King and I" was a winner in all respects and that Humerickhouse's work was an important part of the show's success.

2. DHT musical director Emmett G. Yoshioka enjoyed the party with cast members Kathryn Lee (Eliza), left, and Briana Garrido. Lee performs in the lengthy but beautifully choreographed "Small House of Little Thomas Ballet," one of the most demanding numbers in the show.
