Accused identity thief extradited from California

A 45-year-old Los Angeles man, who allegedly committed identity theft by installing credit card skimming devices at local gas stations, is in a Honolulu cellblock after he was extradited from Los Angeles.

Araik Davtyan was arrested for investigation of three counts of first-degree identity theft on Friday afternoon. He was being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.

According to an Oahu grand jury indictment, Davtyan and two others installed skimming devices on gas pumps at four Oahu gas stations last September. They allegedly used account data gleamed from 156 people who used the compromised pumps and stole more than $150,000.

Police in California arrested one of the other two men, Akop Tadevosovich Changryan, in January.
