Near drownings reported at Pokai Bay, Fort DeRussy

A 3-year-old boy and a man believed to be in his late 50s are both in the hospital following separate near-drowning incidents Sunday.

The boy was taken to an area hospital in serious condition after he was pulled from the ocean near Pokai Bay in Waianae.

According to Emergency Medical Services, this is the third near-drowning of a young child in the last week. The previous incidents involved a 3-year-old girl who was resuscitated after being pulled from a pool on King Street and a 2-year-old boy who was pulled from the ocean.

In the other incident Sunday, a man was rescued from waters near Fort DeRussy and taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
