High surf advisory in effect until Tuesday morning

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for east-facing shores of all Hawaiian islands until 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Strong trade winds will continue to produce elevated choppy surf along east-facing reefs and beaches through Monday night, the weather service said.

Waves of 6 to 8 feet are forecast.

In addition, the weather service canceled a gale warning but posted a small craft advisory until 6 p.m. Monday for island waters. Mariners were advised to expect northeast to east winds of up to 30 knots and rough seas of 10 to 16 feet.

Inexperienced boaters, especially those in smaller vessels, should avoid boating in these conditions, the weather service said.
