Meeting to be held on rules for North Shore surf contests

A meeting will be held Thursday to gather more testimony on new city rules for surf contests held on the North Shore.

The meeting is being held from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Mission Memorial Building Conference Room, 550 S. King St., following complaints made by attendees of a meeting  Nov. 16  at the Sunset Beach Recreation Center. A majority of about 40 people who attended complained that they weren’t given adequate notice to prepare and testify on the proposed Department of Parks and Recreation rules.

The city decided to hold Thursday’s meeting to give more concerned community members the opportunity to testify on the proposed rules that include new permit application procedures and conflict resolution process.

The proposed surf contest rules are available at www1.honolulu.gov/parks/proposedshorewatereventrules.pdf.
