Motorcyclist who died in crash is ID’d as Aiea man

The man killed when his motorcycle crashed in Salt Lake Wednesday has been identified as George Simao Jr., 47, of Aiea.

Police said Simao was driving a 2005 Kawasaki northbound on Bougainville Drive when he lost control and veered into oncoming traffic about 5:14 p.m. Wednesday. He fell off the motorcycle and hit the front bumper and grill of a ford Explorer SUV, police said. The Honolulu woman, 45, driving the SUV, as well as her passengers, were not hurt.

Speed may have been a factor, police said. Simao was wearing a helmet but sustained massive head and internal injuries, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was the fifth person to die on Oahu roads this year. There were eight traffic fatalities at this time in 2011.
