The condition of a Waipahu Intermediate School seventh-grader injured in a confrontation with another student Thursday has improved and the boy was released from the Queen’s Medical Center today, said school Principal Randell Dunn.

Parents of the child called the school to let them know he was out of the hospital, Dunn said.

The boy was hospitalized in critical condition Thursday about noon when he sustained an injury to his head after he was pushed by another boy, Dunn said.

The two boys had been taunting each other for several days, the principal said. When the situation became heated at the end of lunch break Thursday, one of them challenged the other to a fight. When one refused and walked away, the other pushed him and the victim hit his head either on a handrail or on the ground, Dunn said.

There was no fight, he said.

The school held an assembly this morning to discuss the incident which stressed tolerance and forgiveness, Dunn said.
