2 hikers hurt in separate incidents on Oahu

Honolulu Fire Department rescue personnel airlifted two injured hikers to safety in separate incidents at the Koko Head and Maunawili Falls trails.

Shortly after 9 a.m., Saturday rescue workers responded to a 23-year-old woman who suffered ankle and wrist injured after falling on the steep, narrow Koko Head trail in Hawaii Kail. The hiker, who also suffers from asthma, was airlifted off the trail and transferred to the care Emergency Medical Service personnel around 9:45 a.m.

Just before 2 p.m. Saturday, rescue workers were called to the Maunawili Falls trail, where a 30-year-old woman had sustained non-life-threatening injuries in a fall. Rescue personnel located the woman and escorted her to a clearing from which she could be airlifted to a nearby park.

She was transferred to EMS care around 4 p.m.

It has been a typically busy weekend for HFD rescue personnel. Friday night, HFD workers were called to Manoa Falls to assist a female hiker who had suffered a seizure while hiking.
