Boat is beached briefly in Kailua

An inexperienced boat owner ran his 22-foot vessel onto the sand at Kailua Beach and then needed help guiding it back to Lanikai Boat Ramp about 4:30 p.m. today.

After his two passengers got out of the boat, beachgoers managed to push the boat back into the water, said Capt. James Todd, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman.

Firefighters assisted the boat owner in navigating the boat into the boat ramp because the shallow water area has abudant coral.
