Maui County firefighters busy with 3 brush fires

Fire investigators on Maui and Molokai were busy Wednesday trying to determine the origin of three brush fires that could have been intentionally set.

No one was injured in the three fires.

A brush fire in Halawa Valley on Molokai was reported at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday. Fire crews had the blaze under control 30 minutes later and extinguished at 11:30 p.m. Fire investigators said because of the multiple points of ignition, the fire may have been intentionally set.

On Maui, a brush fire was reported at 11:56 p.m. Wednesday at 871 Lahainaluna Road. Fire crews had the fire under control by 12:06 a.m. and extinguished at 50 minutes later. It burned an estimated 2,500 square feet.

Another brush fire was reported on Maui at 11:57 p.m. That fire occurred near Papalua street along Honoapiilani Highway. It was under control by 12:17 a.m. Thursday and extinguished 15 minutes later. It burned about 500 square feet.
