Brig. Gen. Todd B. McCaffrey will return to the islands for his fourth tour with the 25th Infantry Division, this time as one of its deputy commanders, the Army announced this week.

McCaffrey is currently director of training in the Office of the Deputy Army Chief of Staff at the Pentagon.

He will probably replace Brig. Gen. Burdett K. Thompson as deputy commanding general in charge of support operations at the 25th Infantry Division this summer, the Army said. Thompson’s appointment to Camp Smith to become deputy director for strategic planning and policy at the U.S. Pacific Command was announced by the Army last week.

McCaffrey graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1986.

McCaffrey served his first assignment in the 25th Infantry Division as 1st Battalion battalion personnel officer and company commander in 1st Battalion, and the moved on and became aide de camp to the Commanding General, deploying to Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti in 1985.

McCaffrey assumed command of the 25th Division’s 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat and led it during the brigade’s 15-month combat deployment to Iraq, from 2007-2009.
