Oahu loses opening game in Cal Ripken World Series

Oahu got off to a tough start in the Cal Ripken World Series today, losing its first game, 11-8, to Newtown (Conn.) in Aberdeen, Md.

Kyson Donahue doubled, homered and drove in four runs and Jarron Carter also went deep for Oahu, the Pacific Southwest regional champions, which plays Maryland next on Monday at 7 a.m. Hawaii time.

The top three of five teams in each division advance to the seeded rounds beginning on Thursday.

Newtown (2-0), the New England regional champions, scored six runs in the fourth inning and put the game away with three in the top of the sixth after the Shockers pulled within a run at 8-7.
