Power back on in Kuliouou after vehicle crash downs poles

Electricity has been restored to more than 1,000 Kuliouou residents who lost power early Saturday morning when a motor vehicle crash caused four utility poles to fall, a Hawaiian Electric Co. spokeswoman said this afternoon.

Around 400 customers had their power restored as of this morning, and by noon another 100 customers were with power, HECO spokeswoman Barb Heckathorn said. Everyone affected was restored by 2:45 p.m., and the road was reopened for use at that time.

Heckathorn said a motor vehicle crash around 3:30 a.m. on Kuliouou Road caused the downed poles.

Work to restore power was originally expected to continue throughout the day.
