Two women seriously injured in North Shore Shark’s Cove waters

Two women and a man were injured at about noon Monday when a wave swept them away from Shark’s Cove reef area on Oahu’s North Shore. 

According to an Emergency Medical Services report, both women, ages 19 and 20, suffered serious head injury and multiple abrasions. The man, 18, sustained minor injuries. Ocean safety officials and Honolulu firefighters conducted a water rescue. All three were transported to a hospital for treatment. 

Meantime, lifeguards performed 14 rescues on the North and West shores of Oahu today, the Ocean Safety Division reported.

Ocean Safety personnel made 10 rescues, issued 458 warnings and gave assistance twice on the North Shore, where waves were 8 to 10 feet.

On the West Side, lifeguards rescued four people, assisted two and gave out 223 warnings.

Wave heights were from 4 to 5 feet.

By late afternoon, the National Weather Service canceled a high surf advisory for north- and west-facing shores of Kauai and north-facing shores of Oahu, Maui and Molokai.
