Firefighters are battling a brush fire along Kuhio Highway in Hanamaulu on Kauai Tuesday afternoon.

The fire was reported at 4 p.m. Firefighters aboard Air 1 as well as two private helicopter companies are conducting water drops to assist ground crews.

The cause and size of the fire it not known at this time.

As a safety precaution, officials closed Kapule Highway, from the Lihue Airport to the Hanamaulu Junction, until further notice. Northbound motorists are advised to use Kuhio Highway through Hanamaulu as an alternate route.
