Expect warmer, more humid weather with possible afternoon showers and  vog over the next couple of days, National Weather Service forecasters predict.

An approaching weather system is cutting off the northeast tradewinds Thursday into Friday, when the cold front is likely to move over Kauai and Oahu and bring some showers.

“It will feel warmer because we won’t have the cooling tradewinds,” said Tom Birchard, a meterologist with the Honolulu office of the National Weather Service. “It will feel more humid.”

Winds are expected to be light and variable and the forecast for the islands calls for hazy conditions with scattered showers in the afternoon.

Friday will likely be cloudy and hazy on Oahu as the weather system approaches from the northwest.

Birchard said the cold front will bring scattered showers, mainly to north slopes and windward areas of Oahu, Friday afternoon as it passes. It is expected to move down the chain to Maui and the Big Island on Saturday.

Light tradewinds should return to Oahu for the weekend through Memorial Day, bringing pleasant weather with the usual windward and mauka showers in the morning and mostly clear skies over leeward areas.

Surfers can expect a series of south swell to arrive with wave faces of 3 to 5 feet Thursday and the possibility of advisory-level surf on Sunday and Monday. North shores may also get a bump this weekend.
