Pedestrians in Waikiki held onto their hats during gusty wind conditions along Kalakaua Ave.

A wind advisory has been issued as a high pressure system builds north of the state, bringing gusts as high as 50 mph, the National Weather Service said.

The advisory goes into effect at noon on Saturday until 6 p.m. Sunday and covers Kauai, Molokai, Lanai, and Maui.

Northeast winds from 20 mph to 40 mph are expected with localized gusts over 50 mph.

Kauai will see the strongest winds on the leeward side of Koloa to Barking Sands.

On Oahu, the strongest winds will impact the areas lee of the Koolau and Waianae mountain ranges and eastern locations from Waimanalo to Makapuu.

In Maui County, the strongest winds will be in the lee of the mountains, across most of Lanai, and through the central valley from Wailuku to Maalaea Harbor.
