HFD responded to a gas leak 1t 1275 S. King St on Saturday. The leak was reported at 11:08 am and was caused by a vehicle hitting the gas meter in a back parking lot.

A gas leak caused traffic gridlock along South King Street near Keeaumoku Street early Saturday afternoon.

Police dispatch said firefighters called for traffic assistance after a gas leak was reported at 1275 S. King St. about 11:10 a.m.

The leak was contained by 11:35 a.m., but authorities were still on the scene an hour later wrapping up.

At one point, only the farthest mauka lane on King Street was open, police said.

No injuries were reported.

Mark Slovak said he found the leak coming from a gas meter while doing repairs at a building on the corner of Birch and South King streets.

He said it appeared a vehicle had struck and damaged the meter in the building’s parking lot.

Slovak said the building was evacuated after he reported the leak.
