Hawaiian and Delta planes traveling from Hawaii to Los Angeles were among the flights diverted by dense fog that’s been affecting travel in Southern California.

The fog impacted airline flights at several airports Thursday morning, and slowed rush hour traffic on some freeways.

According to the Flightaware.com website, Hawaiian Airlines Flight 4, which left Honolulu Airport at 11:25 p.m. Wednesday landed in Las Vegas at 6:45 a.m. and then returned to Los Angeles after the weather cleared and landed at 10:01 a.m.

Delta Airlines Flight 2116 from Kahului landed in Orange County instead of LAX. The flight left Maui at 11:50 p.m. Wendesday and arrived at Ontario International Airport at 6:55 a.m.

Los Angeles International Airport spokeswoman Mary Grady told KNX radio that a ground stop there has been lifted, but earlier 10 inbound flights were diverted east to the inland airport in Ontario, one flight was diverted to Salt Lake City and another to San Francisco.

The Federal Aviation Administration’s website says the weather has also affected the airports in San Diego, Long Beach and Orange County, where John Wayne Airport spokeswoman Jenny Wedge says the fog delayed about 20 departures

The National Weather Service says dense fog advisories were in effect through midmorning.
