SALT LAKE CITY >> The family of missing Utah mother Susan Powell has settled a court battle over insurance money with the family of her husband, Josh Powell, who was the only suspect in her disappearance.

Court records show that two sides reached an agreement in Salt Lake City Thursday resolving the dispute over about $2.3 million in proceeds from life insurance.

Details about the settlement, which was first reported by the Fox 13 TV station, were not publicly disclosed in court records.

Susan Powell disappeared in 2009 and has never been found. While Josh Powell was investigated as a suspect in his wife’s disappearance, he wasn’t arrested before he killed himself and the couple’s boys in 2012.

Attorneys did not immediately return phone messages seeking comment on the case.

Josh Powell’s sister Alina Powell and mother, Terrica Powell, had argued they were entitled to half the proceeds from life-insurance policies taken out on the couple and their two sons. They argued that Susan Powell’s father, Charles Cox, wrongly shut them out of the estate in 2013. An attorney for her family has said they want to donate the money to charity.
