Hirono to receive award from American Bar Association

U.S. Sen. Mazie K. Hirono, Hawaii’s first female senator and the first Asian-Pacific American woman elected to the U.S. Senate, is one of five outstanding female attorneys who will be honored with the American Bar Association’s 2013 Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Award.

The award is given annually by the American Bar Association Commission on Women in the Profession. It will be presented Aug. 11 at the Moscone Center West in San Francisco during the ABA’s annual meeting. 

Sara Holtz, founder & chief executive officer of ClientFocus; U.S. District Court Judge for the District of Columbia Gladys Kessler; Marygold Shire, University of Wisconsin Law School professor; and Therese M. Stewart, chief deputy city attorney for San Francisco, will also receive the award. Previous honorees include U.S. Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
