Pedestrian dies after hit in Iwilei crosswalk

A pedestrian was in a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a pickup truck at 10 p.m. while crossing Nimitz Highway near Sumner Street, police said.
A 63-year-old man was killed Wednesday night while crossing Nimitz Highway in Iwilei.

Police said the pedestrian was in a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a pickup truck at 10 p.m. while crossing Nimitz Highway near Sumner Street. The truck was heading west on Nimitz Highway and may have been speeding, police said.
The pedestrian was taken to the hospital with critical injuries where he died.
The driver was not injured.
This was Oahu’s 39th traffic death, compared to 48 the same time a year ago.
