Hawaii County police capture ‘dangerous’ fugitive
Hawaii County police captured a fugitive, described as “extremely dangerous,” who was wanted in connection with terroristic threatening and assault cases.
Police arrested Ronald Joseph Kong, 33, at an Ainaloa home in Puna at about 11:45 p.m. Sunday.
He had been wanted in connection with several cases including abuse of a family member; first-degree terroristic threatening; first-degree unlawful imprisonment; second-degree assault; 18 firearms charges including possession of a sawed-off shotgun and a rifle with a silencer; two explosives- or bomb-related charges; first-degree burglary, second-degree theft and drug violations.
Police had been looking for the Mountain View man since at least Jan. 11, when they issued a news release seeking information on his whereabouts.
Police almost captured him on Jan. 12, when officers pulled over a stolen pickup truck in Mountain View near Kukui Camp Road. But Kong fled on foot into a forested area.
Police said Kong is a suspect in additional cases that came to light following the execution of search warrants on a stolen vehicle and a backpack.
Kong was being held in the police station cellblock pending further investigation.

King Kong went down easily. Now keep him off the dangerous Puna streets. How many crimes does he need to commit?
