Sportscaster and television host Erin Andrews testified today in Nashville, Tenn. Andrews filed a $75 million lawsuit against the franchise owner and manager of a luxury hotel and a man who admitted to making secret nude recordings of her in 2008.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. » Sportscaster and TV host Erin Andrews testified today that she doesn’t think she’ll ever get over the emotional fallout that came after a stalker secretly took nude videos of her and put them on the Internet.

The stalker was able to get the videos after altering hotel room door peepholes, removing them and placing his cell phone camera against the empty hole.

Andrews has filed a $75 million lawsuit against the stalker and the owner and manager of the Marriott at Vanderbilt. She blames the hotel companies after the stalker altered the peephole while she stayed in Nashville to cover college football for ESPN.

During testimony in the civil trial, Andrews said she remains on guard every time she stays in a hotel during her extensive business travels.

Andrews said she immediately asks to change rooms as soon as she checks into a hotel. She said she refuses to let anyone inside the room, and she sweeps it for cameras or “booby traps.”

Andrews told jurors Monday that it ripped her apart when some said they thought the videos were a publicity stunt. She broke down, saying she’s anxious and depressed, and gets taunted by people who’ve seen the videos.

The hotel companies say what happened is terrible but the stalker is to blame.

Jurors heard from the stalker earlier Monday during recorded depositions played in court. In the videos played before the jury, Michael David Barrett testified that he took the secret nude videos of Andrews so he could make money.

Barrett spent more than 2 1/2 years in federal prison after he admitted to renting hotel rooms next to Andrews three times and shooting nude videos of her in Nashville and Columbus, Ohio, and posting them on the Internet.

He was an executive with a Chicago-area insurance company when he shot the footage of Andrews in the Nashville hotel in September 2008.

A voyeur who probably has little funds got caught with his camera on the peep hole and the victim files suit against both the manager of the hotel chain whose got the bucks and the perpetrator. Who will pay and how much?

  2. bleedgreen says:

The guy spent 2 and a half years in prison. Probably doesn’t have much money. And why is the hotel wrong? Does she think they collaborated with Barrett? In any case she seems to be bringing just more attention to herself. I had already forgotten about this until I read the article.

It’s called “Duty of Care.” It’s limited for a hotel but still exists. Failure to fulfill a duty of care is negligent. That’s why.

      • bleedgreen says:

I had to look this up to get an understanding of this aspect of negligence. From what I have read, I can’t see that the hotel had failed in its duty because there was nothing wrong with the hotel room and its door. The guilty “altering [altered] hotel room door peepholes, removing them and placing his cell phone camera against the empty hole.” The hotel did not fail in its duty to maintain and care for the hotel room. The perpetrator willfully modified the hotel room door. Thus, it was not negligence. That’s just my opinion. But I would venture a guess that a lawyer or law firm has convinced Erin that there was negligence and she stands to make a lot of money in damages.

The hotel is wrong because they gave out personal info on her.
“Andrews claims that Marriott is ultimately in the wrong because its employees were the ones who told Barrett she had been staying at the hotel, gave him her room number — and then agreed to place the perv in the room next door.”

Ah, OK. That clarifies things. I am so sorry that the employees gave out this confidential information. It will cost the hotel chain a lot. Negotiated settlement I am sure.

  3. dyw001 says:

I feel sorry for her, but is she really worth 75 million dollars just because people saw her naked body? And why is the hotel to blame?

  4. Racoon says:

God! Am gonna have to remember to tape the door’s peephole. I love to play my guitar hard and naked. Love to jump off the dresser onto my mattress and back backwards. I try to perfect my acrobatics by standing on my head on the TV. Sometimes I change hands so I can play ambidextrous. Practice is hard work. Darn if someone should cheat and peek at my exercises. 😉

au naturale? cholo says no. too perfect.

  6. paniolo says:

How can you alter a peephole without anyone noticing? No security cameras in the hallway? If he held his cellphone to the altered peephole wouldn’t someone notice him standing there? Would look kind of strange to me.

  7. KWAY says:

she’s loving the publicity.and brings absolutely nothing to NFL broadcasts, they need to rid the broadcasts of sideline reporters, i think we can all figure out a coach wants his team to play better in the second half, and none of us are interested in their favorite color
