SEATTLE >> A Pasco, Washington, company has expanded its recall of frozen vegetables and fruit linked to a listeria outbreak that has sickened eight people.

One person from Maryland and one from Washington have died but health officials do not consider listeria to be the cause of death for either person.

The Centers for Disease Control says the recall by CRF Frozen Foods began in April and was expanded on Monday. The recall now includes all organic and traditional frozen vegetable and fruit products processed in the company’s Pasco facility since May 1, 2014.

About 358 products sold under 42 separate brands were recalled. The company manufactures private label brands sold at Costco, Safeway and other stores in all 50 states and parts of Canada.

The CDC says the listeria outbreak that started in September 2013 has sickened people in Washington, Maryland and California. Two illnesses were reported in 2016 and six were reported between 2013 and 2015. All eight people were hospitalized.

Organic frozen food can be deadly.

Totally useless article – where’s the follow up research? Product names, codes, etc.? Write an alarming article, cry “wolf”, and then silence. So much for investigative reporting, or reporting in general. No wonder our politicians and high muckamucks get away with murder! Our news media are just in it for the ad bucks. Like Clinton, they all cater to those who have the $$$$$$$.

Try to avoid buying produce from Safeway.

…well you see, it is non-GMO and organic.

  6. wrightj says:

They call it organic to fool us and charge more for it; now look what has happened.

Just a little reminder. Grocery stores are not here to feed you but to make money selling food. The absolute goal IS to charge you more!

No big deal just another food borne bacteria, if you cook your vegies properly you’ll be fine. If you eat the fruits or vegies raw you might get sick, or the runs, or worse case die.

it seems like costco makes headlines quite frequently for this kind of thing

Costco will always be one of our favorite places to go.

I threw away the broccoli that had a barcode that matched the info in the link. I was almost done with it too.

I better keep an eye out for symptoms.

Wow, this recall is absolutely massive by the list. Wonder how these companies survive this kind of hit to their bottom line? Liability and other insurance cannot come close to covering this. It is like the Takata air-bag issue. Probably certain production and testing employees in the company will lose their jobs over this. Not excusing who is responsible, just saying.
