A day after Hawaii swept UCLA 3-0, the Bruins returned the favor, sweeping the Rainbow Wahine out of the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship today at Gulf Shores, Ala.

UCLA (22-7) won at Flights 2, 3 and 4 for a 3-0 victory. Two of the matches went to three sets with Ivey Schmitt and Kamila Tan rallying past Nikki Taylor and Ka’iwi Schucht at No. 2, 18-21, 21-12, 15-12, and Elise Zappla and Izzy Carey coming back to beat Ginger Long and Mikayla Tucker at No. 3, 20-22, 21-19, 15-11. Flights 1 and 5 were tied at 1-1 but did not finish after the Bruins clinched the dual with the win at No. 2.

UCLA moves on to play top-seeded Florida State (31-2) in Sunday’s contenders bracket final. The winner of that will face second-seeded USC (33-2) for the championship; should the Women of Troy lose, a second match will be played to determine the champion in the double-elimination tournament.

USC defeated Florida State 3-1 earlier today in the championship bracket semifinal, handing the Seminoles just their second loss of the year. FSU’s only other loss came in March to Hawaii 4-1.

Both Hawaii and UCLA won elimination matches earlier today, the SandBows 3-0 over sixth-seeded Arizona, and the Bruins 3-2 over third-seeded Pepperdine.
