Documents show different medal count for ‘American Sniper’
HOUSTON >> The number of medals slain Navy Seal and “American Sniper” author Chris Kyle received has been corrected following a military investigation.
The Navy investigation determined that Kyle earned one Silver Star and four Bronze Stars. In his best-selling book, Kyle wrote he had received two Silver Stars and five Bronze Stars.
Lt. Jackie Pau, a Navy spokeswoman, said Sunday the investigation didn’t determine how the error happened but stated that errors on the discharge paperwork that lists such awards are not uncommon.
Kyle’s widow, Taya Kyle, didn’t immediately return a phone call Sunday.
Kyle, regarded as the deadliest sniper in U.S. military history, was killed in 2013 at a Texas shooting range. A former Marine was convicted in his death.

I know from experience mistakes for awards on discharge paperwork (DD214) are not uncommon. The average guy just wants to get discharged & doesn’t pay much attention to what’s on the awards line. Chris Kyle was not your average guy though. You would think the Navy would have been more careful. He was a true hero may he rest in peace.
Whether or not there are mistakes on a DD 214, the soldier knows what he earned. Kyle lied. This is a case of “stolen honor.”

The awarding of a Silver Star used to require a citation, suitable for framing, be issued to the awardee.
I don’t care about his medal count, what he did overseas is remarkable
