It gets harder and harder, especially on the neighbor islands, and don’t let me tell you, if you have quest, it is much more difficult. The doctors are either moving away, retiring, not taking medicaid, or if they have maxed out on how many medicaid people they accept.

Those that health insurance in most instances were satisfied with them. The unsatisfied did not have much problem getting insurance being as they believed they needed it. It was the fringes who could not afford and really poor that needed insurance! Instead of re-inventing the wheel Obama-care upset and created a new mess even for the already insured with increased and unprecedented costs, let alone having the same problem for the uninsured. Obama-care has not improved health-care for all but has created a newer problem, higher cost for not only the uninsured but also the formerly insured. What a poor legacy he created for himself!

Mainland insurance & Medicare, are a problem in Hawaii.

Not all of the mainland insurance, is accepted in Hawaii. Not everyone in Hawaii, accepts Medicare.

When you have a mainland insurance and Medicare, you still have a tough time finding any doctors in Hawaii.

I thought nothing about referring a friend to our family doctor – only to find out the doctor told him he wasn’t taking any new patients.

Some times waiting a few days to get in gives the pathogens the upper hand.

My Doctor is moving to a Concierge service. Got to make a choice. Only know of one more Dr. I trust but he is 78.

Shortage of doctors have been coming for a long time with no relief in sight. The government (state and federal) needs to set up special programs to produce more doctors – set up dedicated medical schools with full government funding; more financial assistance to attend existing medical schools; set up programs to bring in foreign doctors (even temporarily); and create a new class of medical people to function somewhere between a doctor and a RN to serve people with standard ailments.

The doctor situation in the U.S. is sad. I call for an appointment (medical and dental) in Hawaii and they tell me the next opening is about a month away. I’ve walked into hospitals and dental offices in a Southeast Asian country and in roughly 20-30 minutes I am being examined by a doctor (or dentist) and get treatment right then and the cost is low enough that I pay cash. Of course, my ailments were minor but so were the ailments I had in Hawaii. The doctors and dentists also seemed very qualified with their training in England and Germany.
