Honolulu police and CrimeStoppers are seeking the public’s help in locating a man wanted for robbing two banks today.

The man entered the Bank of Hawaii branch in Pawaa, 1451 South King St., at about 12:25 p.m., handed a teller a note and demanded money, police said. He did the same thing at the Liliha branch of American Savings Bank, 1425 Liliha St., about 15 minutes later, police said.

He fled in a taxi from the American Savings Bank with an undisclosed amount of money.

Police described the man as 40 to 50 years old, 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall, and 140 to 150 pounds. He had salt and pepper hair and was wearing a green aloha shirt, shorts, and slippers.

It’s almost as if the taxi driver is involved here.

Where is bank security? Where is the FBI….these are federal crimes. The entire thing is ludicrous and embarrassing.

Somewhat like a late-night liquor store open for business in an unsavory neighborhood, potential robberies are just the cost of doing business if you’re a bank. As the old saying goes, “Why rob banks? Because that’s where the money is.”

On a more serious note, fully 90% of bank robberies are cleared by the authorities in short order. There are far easier and less risky ways to steal money.

Would the bank robber be dumb enough to get off where he lives?

This is getting ridiculous. We are on an island. He isn’t going anywhere. If he intended to leave, he would have done so, or is about to. How much did he actually get away with? No one knows but maybe not even enough to get a plane ticket. What is certain? The lack of administrative and moral leadership at the top of the Honolulu Police Department makes everything suspect, including the inability to collar this guy, no pun intended.

Are you kidding me with the grainy and terrible picture in this day of HD-about 240 resolution not going help capture this guy!!

Some people watching 5-0 too much. Easy catching a thief huh? Element of surprise rules but this senior bank robber will make a mistake and do it one too many times. Either he needs to pay off his 6-5 bets or wants to buy a lot Christmas presents.
