Big Island police responded to a report of a man in a white Jeep who fired several gunshots at a group of people who were standing near their vehicles in a parking lot in proximity to McDonald’s at Puainako Center.

Hawaii County police arrested three people in connection with a shooting at a shopping center parking lot in Hilo Monday night.

Police arrested a 29-year-old man, of no permanent address, on suspicion of five counts of attempted second-degree murder, five counts of attempted first-degree murder, terroristic threatening, resisting an order to stop a vehicle and reckless driving.

A 32-year-old Pahoa woman and a 17-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of attempted murder were released pending further investigation.

Capt. Randall Medeiros of the Hawaii Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Section said the three suspects are acquaintances.

At about 10 p.m., police responded to a report of a man in a white Jeep who fired several gunshots at a group of people — four men ages 18 and 19, and a 20-year-old woman — who were standing near their vehicles in a parking lot in proximity to McDonald’s at Puainako Center, 2100 Kanoelehua Avenue.

No injuries were reported, however, two vehicles were struck by bullets multiple times.

Medeiros said there is no indication the suspects and victims knew one another.

A police chase ensued after responding officers spotted the suspect in Keeau at about 12:25 a.m. Shortly after, the vehicle stopped and a woman and a 17-year-old boy exited the car before it sped away.

About a half-hour later, police said the 29-year-old man ditched his car near the old mill in Keeau and ran away. Soon after, police caught the suspect.

Medeiros said the gun used in the shooting has not been recovered.

Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting.

Another person with “no permanent address” committing a crime. Guess I’d be pretty angry too if I didn’t have a permanent address.

I guess all the judges in Hawaii should get out of the Judiciary and become fishermen instead. Why not, they only good with their “catch and Release” antics.
