Girl, 3, and father seriously injured in fall from Nuuanu hiking trail

The Honolulu Fire Department rescued a slew of injured hikers on Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, including a father and his three-year-old daughter who were seriously injured after they fell from a trail in Nuuanu.

The father, 32, was holding his daughter when they fell about 15 feet off the Lulumahu Falls Trail, sustaining head injuries, at about 2 p.m. on Monday. Fire crews airlifted the family, including the father, girl and her mother to the landing zone at Palolo District Park. The man and his daughter were transported by Emergency Medical Services to a hospital in serious condition.

Dozens of firefighters, plus AIR1, were busy throughout the afternoon.

Other rescues on Monday include:

>>12:34 p.m., a female hiker, 49, slipped and fell on the Manoa Falls Trail, injuring her right leg. Firefighters hiked up the trail to assess and treat the woman. She was airlifted to the Manoa District Park landing zone and transported by EMS in stable condition to a hospital.

>> 1:35 p.m., a 24-year-old man who injured his ankle and fell about 20 feet on the Pali Notches Trail when a rope he used gave way. He was stabilized, treated for his injuries and airlifted to the landing zone at Nuuanu Reservoir. He was evaluated by EMS but refused transport.

>>1:41 p.m., a 19-year-old man hiking with a group of five injured his left knee while descending the Kaau Crater Loop Trail in Palolo. Firefighters hiked up the trail and found the patient at about 3 p.m. He was airlifted to the landing zone at Palolo District Park and transported by EMS in stable condition to a hospital.
