Firefighters investigate cause of Waipahu house fire

Honolulu firefighters extinguished a residential fire in Waipahu Thursday night.

At 7:35 p.m., 10 units with 35 firefighters initially responded to a fire at a home located at 94-1056 Lumi St.

When they arrived, they observed smoke and flames emanating from the kitchen.

Firefighters brought the fire under control shortly after 7:40 p.m., prompting dispatchers to cancel units responding to the second alarm, said, Capt. Kevin Mokulehua, spokesman of the Honolulu Fire Department.

Firefighters extinguished the fire at 8:03 p.m.

Mokulehua said no one was home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and the damage estimate to the structure has yet to be determined.
