Lifeguards rescue swimmer at Spitting Caves

Honolulu Ocean Safety lifeguards rescued a swimmer in distress at Spitting Caves on Thursday, according to spokeswoman Shayne Enright.

Shortly before noon on Thursday, lifeguards responded to a call for a swimmer in distress at Spitting Caves off of East Oahu.

A 17-year-old boy visiting from Switzerland had jumped from the cliffside and was unable to swim back to the ledge to exit the water. Ocean Safety lifeguards rescued him from the roughly 6-foot surf and brought him back to shore. He refused treatment and transport by the Honolulu Emergency Medical Services.
