Women swept from ledge, rescued at Sandy Beach Blowhole

Michael Tsai

Honolulu lifeguards rescued two women Saturday afternoon after they were knocked off a ledge and into the ocean by high surf near Halona Blowhole at Sandy Beach.

According to an Ocean Safety report, a witness at the scene jumped in after the women to help keep them calm while another witness called 911. Surf was reportedly rough at the time, with wave heights of 6 to 10 feet.

Lifeguards brought both women back to shore, where they were transferred to the care of Emergency Medical Services personnel.

Paramedics treated the women for multiple injuries and transported them both in serious condition to an emergency room.

According to Ocean Safety, the ledge on which the women were standing is restricted.
