Ala Moana Beach Park has inadequate parking and is the most crowded park on Oahu. Why make the situation worse with a 1-acre playground for 500 kids, plus who knows how many adults?

Consider building the playground near the Children’s Discovery Center where there is underutilized park space and ample parking. This wouldn’t burden Ala Moana Park, and would benefit the museum and develop the area.

As an alternative, how about building smaller versions of the playground at various locations around Honolulu?

This would benefit special-needs kids throughout the city and they wouldn’t have to drive to Ala Moana, which is consistent with the city’s plans to reduce carbon dioxide by reducing driving.

Lastly, with anticipated sea-level rise by mid-century, it doesn’t make sense to invest in building structures within Ala Moana Park, which will be a prime target of sea-level rise.
