Wayne Winegarden is woefully short on solutions to climate issues as he zeros in only on the Green New Deal’s cost (“The expensive GND would hurt working-class Americans the most,” Star-Advertiser, Insight, March 10). We need climate action now, and leadership from the top to focus our efforts. Our Hawaii legislators could help immensely by taking a stronger stance for immediate action.

The GND, which so far only U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono has signed, is a resolution insisting that Congress deal with climate change in its entirety. The GND will be many policies challenging the status quo — in energy production, agriculture, economics and society as a whole. It will require resiliency and changes in our thinking. Yes, there will be costs, but the cost of inaction is unthinkable: an unlivable planet.

The details are not yet laid out, but the GND will serve as momentum to rally the troops (all of us). So far, Hawaii’s legislators agree in word, but where’s the action? The clock is ticking.
