With the estimated cost of rail ballooning, the suspicion has grown that malfeasance may be part of the explanation. The current investigation by federal prosecutors should provide a definitive answer (“Third HART subpoena seeks minutes of closed meetings,” Star-Advertiser, Feb. 26).
Should wrongdoing prove to be the case, it would be unfortunate. But any criminal activity should not be permitted to discredit rail or deter the city from completing this project, as its relentless critics would like.
Rail is the only available answer to our traffic problems. It must not be abandoned whatever the results of the current investigation.
