Police are investigating a fire at a Kalihi business caused an estimated $454,000 in damage, but no one was injured, authorities said.

The Honolulu Fire Department investigators determined the fire was intentionally set at the Office Depot located at 1505 Dillingham Avenue.

Police have opened a first-degree arson investigation.

No arrests have been made.

The fire department sent 26 personnel at 3:13 p.m. Thursday. The first unit arrived at 3:20 p.m., but found no sign of smoke or fire from the exterior of the building.

But after entering the store, firefighters saw thick, black smoke and a shelf on fire inside the store.

All the store occupants safely escaped, HFD said.

The blaze was brought under control at 3:47 p.m. and extinguished at 4:21 p.m.

HFD investigators found damages are estimated at $104,000 to the structure and $350,000 to its contents.

The building had no working smoke alarm system, but did have fire sprinklers.
