Police investigate a critical pedestrian crash near the intersection of Kuhio and Kapahulu avenues this afternoon.

A 58-year-old woman was critically injured today in a pedestrian crash near the Honolulu Zoo.

About 5 p.m., the woman was heading towards Diamond Head in a marked crosswalk on Kapahulu Avenue when she was hit by a Toyota van south of Kuhio Avenue. Police said a 21-year-old man was driving the van makai-bound at the time of the crash.

The woman was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

Police closed the makai-bound lanes of Kapahulu for about two hours to investigate.
