TOKYO >> Low-cost carrier Peach Aviation has launched a new scenic flight service that allows customers to build their own itineraries.

While other carriers have delved into scenic flights to ease massive shortfalls caused by the pandemic, itineraries and schedules are set by the airlines.

Peach, based at Kansai Airport, decided to accept customized requests to help fill the void of canceled school excursions.

The carrier held its first customized trip a few weeks ago for the Kansai Skyfriend Association, 40 aviation enthusiasts from local elementary, middle and high schools.

The route included a 2-1/2-hour flight over the Seto Inland Sea and Kyushu. During the journey, pilots explained the mechanics of the engines and other aspects of the aircraft.

“I haven’t been able to fly for a year,” said one 14-year-old student. “I could get a great look at the Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge from the window. It was so beautiful.”
