Pacific Gateway to open business incubator in Chinatown

The Pacific Gateway Center will hold a grand opening for a new center in Chinatown that will operate like a retail incubator to help the economically disadvantaged learn how to package and market their food and craft items.

The opening ceremony for the Harry and Jeannette Weinberg Paradise Enterprise Center at 83 North King Street will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m.

Sen. Daniel K. Inouye, who helped secure $4.2 million in federal funding for the construction of the center, will give a short keynote address.

The Weinberg Foundation contributed $1 million toward the renovation of the historic Chinatown building and the City and County of Honolulu authorized HUD funding for the building’s renovation.

Pacific Gateway already operates a kitchen incubator (12 commercial kitchens/24 hours a day) in Kalihi-Palama that helps immigrants and refugees prepare food items for sale to hotels, restaurants  and other retail locations.
