A 29-year-old man, who was seen standing next to a car that had been reported stolen, jumped in and drove off after the owner’s wife recognized the vehicle at a shopping center in Waipio, police said. 

The man abandoned the car about 20 minutes later and tried to run away, but officers found the empty vehicle and then the man nearby about 3:30 p.m., police said. The man allegedly resisted arrest, but officers were able to arrest him on suspicion of auto theft and resisting arrest.
