Warning signs posted along Nuuanu Stream and Ala Wai

The state Health Department is putting up warning signs along Nuuanu Stream after a 350-gallon sewer manhole overflow at Waikahululu Lane.

A Health Department spokesman said grease buildup clogged a 6-inch line that backed up

The sewage discharged entered the stream through a storm drain mauka of Foster Botanical Garden.

The public is advised to stay out of Nuuanu Stream from School Street to Honolulu Harbor. Warning signs are being posted and water samples taken.

Signs were also posted along the Ala Wai Canal after a 75-gallon wastewater discharge from 1830 Kapiolani Boulevard. People are advised to stay out of the canal from the McCully Street bridge to the Ala Moana bridge for the next 2 days.
