Two people are dead and a 15-year-old girl was in critical condition after a pickup truck crashed into a tree on the Pali Highway early Sunday  morning.

The crash happened at about 12:25 a.m. near Waokanaka Street, paramedics said. A 24-year-old man died at the scene, according to an Emergency Medical Services report. Paramedics also took a 15-year-old girl to the hospital in critical condition.

Police said an adult woman was also pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics initially said the victim was a 15-year-old girl.

Police said the Kailua man driving the vehicle lost control of the truck, which went off the highway and ended up in a tree.

Speed is factor in the crash. Police are still investigating if alcohol was involved.

Police are also asking for help in finding out what happened. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call traffic investigators at 723-3413

Police closed the Kailua-bound lanes of Pali Highway for several hours while they investigated the crash.
